Become a Life Coach
One of the best ways to pick a business to start for yourself is to think about what problems you have faced in your life and come up with a solution to solve that problem in a way that you can monetize. That is exactly what life coaching is all about. In this section we will go over how to come up with a brand for your life coaching business and how to market that brand to get new customers that will stay with you for years to come.
The first step to starting a life coaching business is to clearly understand who you are trying to help, what problem you are trying to solve for them and what solution you want to provide them. This should be something that you are an expert in at life already. This may be public speaking, mindfulness, career coaching, entrepreneurial coaching, or anything else that you see a market for that you can provide real value to. Spend some time thinking about your target customer and a plan for how to help them. You should come up with a mission statement of sorts that clearly gives you a vision on what service you provide. An example of this is I will help entrepreneurs make their innovative ideas into profitable businesses.
Once you know who it is that you will help with your coaching business, you will want to create a coaching program that will add a lot of value to your potential clients. You should put together a course of sorts that will teach your customers how to achieve their desired result. For our example, we chose entrepreneurial coaching so we can write a program that will outline different sections which will start with the basics of being a successful entrepreneur and lead them all the way through your training to becoming a master in their industry and make their ideas into a business. You can look over all our courses to get an idea of the structure that your program may follow. Keep in mind that you will need to personalize your program for each of your clients but this program that you write up will give you confidence that you have information already organized that will help your clients get from A-Z.
Once you have a program structure written out, it is time to create a brand for your coaching business. Of course, you should come up with a logo and website and everything else which we will go over, but the most important thing about starting a coaching business is to portray yourself as someone that has something that your potential clients want. For example, if you wanted to be a personal trainer but you are terribly out of shape, then not many people will want to use you as a personal trainer. If you are a coach for entrepreneurs, you should embody success, organization, motivation, and professionalism. You will want to be exactly who your clients want to be! Do not complain on your social media, use your online presence as advertising itself on what you can offer to the lives of others.
Now that you understand what your clients will want to see in you to inspire them to reach out and take you seriously, it is time to portray that online. You should add entrepreneur coach, or mindfulness coach, or relationship coach or whatever your coaching niche is instead of just adding life coach in general. You should make use of Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to show off your knowledge on the topic you are coaching for and post content daily! Start creating motivational videos for your reels on Instagram and Facebook, post these videos to TikTok and even YouTube shorts to grow your chances of going viral online even more and show the support and passion you have for your business by responding to any comments and messages that you get in a supportive way. Before people will pay you for your services they will want a sneak peak at the expertise you have so that they see value in your service.
You will also want to create a logo for your brand that speaks to your audience and a website they can check out your services on. To get a good logo, you can go to chat GPT and describe the logo you want and it will generate it. You can also pay someone on Fiverr.com to do it that offers revisions so you can work on the logo with them until it feels just right for you. Once you have a logo you can look up other top coaching businesses in your niche and get a good idea for a layout for your site. Typically, your site should go over your mission, talk about your services that you offer, the things you have accomplished in your niche and testimonials from people you have coached if you have any. It should also have clear call to action buttons that allow people to fill out a form so you can get their contact info and reach out to them. Make your form ask about what problems they are facing so that you can call them with a good idea on how to gain their business and impress them. You should also have your contact information and social media pages linked so that they can easily get in touch with you.
Another thing you should also think about is getting a coaching certificate from a course that is certified by the international coaching federation (ICF). Keep in mind that this is not a requirement by any means, but it will give you more professional proof for your clients and of course teach you a lot about running a life coaching business. The Coach Training Alliance offers an amazing course that is certified by the ICF and it is much more affordable than some other courses that can charge over $10,000 for the same service. This company charges about $3,500 for their course, which may seem like a lot but if you have the money to spend, consider taking a course like this because it will make clients even more confident in your services as well as yourself.
Now that you have everything you need to start coaching, it is time to start getting clients for your coaching business. The best way to start is by growing your followers on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and Twitter if you would like by practicing the art of following and unfollowing people that follow other profiles related to your niche. You can learn more about how to do this as well as the other tactics we will talk about in our marketing sections so you do not get banned or restricted on your accounts. You will also want to consistently make short form video content about your niche, offering valuable information for free and posting motivational content. You can make these videos with stock pictures and clips and by posting videos of yourself talking about experiences, problems, and solutions relating to your brand. You can learn more about making these videos under our how to create effective videos section. The key to this is to post on a large scale and always mention the link to your site which you should put in your bios at the end of each video. If you post new videos every day to reels TikTok and YouTube shorts, then you will be sure to go viral eventually. If you focus on posting 3 videos per day on each account, you will grow 3 times faster than if you only post 1 video per day so understand these numbers and stay consistent.
You should also join groups on Facebook, Telegram, Reddit, and Discord relating to your niche and interact in these groups to make a name for yourself in them. You should not focus on advertising your company right away but instead focus on providing help to the people who post in those groups by commenting on posts with valuable information. Show that you are passionate about helping people in your niche and relate with these people to show them how you once struggled with their problems before and how you were able to solve them in your life. Once you have built a reputation in these groups you can start offering your services with a discount for anyone in your group.
When you are starting out, another great thing you can do to gain new customers is to offer free coaching or discounted coaching to friends and family, so that you can practice and build a portfolio of success. At the beginning you will want to focus on getting as much experience as you can so that you become more confident in your coaching ability and more confident when asking for money for your services. You can also post offers for free consultations where you can give some amazing value to potential clients and leave them wanting more. You can even message people that follow profiles related to your niche on Facebook, Instagram and even LinkedIn (with a $100 per month premium subscription which allows direct messaging to people) and offer them a free online or in person session that will potentially gain them as long-term customers. Do all of these things on a large scale for hours each day and you will be amazed how fast you can grow your customer base.
Once you have some customers, you will want to take advantage of referrals! Most business gained in this industry is typically from friends of clients that are happy with your services. You should be offering happy clients an incentive to find you new business. You can give them a free session, a discount on your services or even cash for finding you new business and you should make it well known and seem like everyone else does this for you. Once you have some clients built up, this strategy alone may be all you need to continue growing your business. If you can get just 2 new clients from every happy client you have, you will grow your business exponentially, so take advantage of this!
The last step to creating a life coaching business is to stay learning and practicing! You should subscribe to every newsletter, email list, profile, group, magazine, or any other subscription that will keep you updated on your niche every day. You need to become the person with the knowledge and attitude that your clients are looking for and you always want to stay at the top of your game. You also will want to practice coaching sessions with your family, friend, or partner so that you continue to sharpen your coaching skills for your future clients. If you consistently follow the steps we have laid out in this section, you will be sure to grow your coaching business quickly and become the coach that you always needed in your life years ago.
