Direct to Consumer Marketing
This is the type of marketing that I originally come from and may even have the most experience in. Direct to consumer marketing is more of just sales to me but then again all marketing is really a form of sales. Direct to consumer is great for household services and products especially but can be used creatively for all types of purposes. This subsection will go over many types of direct-to-consumer marketing and how you may be able to take advantage of it for your business.
A. Door to Door Sales
Door to door sales is one of the best marketing techniques in the world for home services and products. I have worked for companies worth Billions of dollars whose backbone is door to door sales. If you are starting a business in home remodeling, lawn care, solar, roofing, pest control, tree removal or anything that has to do with homes, this is an amazing way to grow your business.
For this section I would refer to our course on Sales where we go over in detail how to be a good door to door salesman and if you wish to learn how to recruit you can simply refer to our recruiting subsection under the How to Start a business Course. These will give you the keys to being able to sell, recruit and train a team, which will teach you everything you need to know about building a brand based on door to door sales.
B. Billboard Style marketing
There are many ways to go about billboard style marketing and it does not always have to cost too much money. When I think of billboard marketing I think of any type of marketing that is showing off your brand in a public setting. The best way to go about this marketing is typically to think outside the box. You do not have to go and buy a billboard in New York City to practice this form of marketing. I like to buy custom stickers with an intriguing slogan and a QR code with our graphic in the middle. You can pay pennies per sticker and have you or someone else go place them around big cities near you if it is a large project or mission then you can gain a lot of new followers and eyes on your brand. Even if it is a product you are advertising, you can gain a lot of exposure all the same as well. It costs very little to do and if you are in a city like New York putting them places where people are typically waiting around can be HUGE for your brand if I see a QR code while I'm waiting for a train, I am bored and I will probably take a look at the site just because.
Another thing you can do is ship free t-shirts and merch on your brand to influencers and even just friends that you know are out and about a lot. If the shirt or merch grabs attention and has a site name or QR code even that can do wonders for a brand as well. You can also do the same thing with bumper stickers as well.
When it comes to paying for actual billboards the biggest thing to keep in mind is how much exposure you are getting for what you are paying. Billboard companies typically have these metrics available or at least an estimate of eyes that will see your billboard. Billboards in nicer suburbs just outside a city tend to have the best bang for your buck from what I have seen. It is typically best to start there regardless anyway since it is much less than in the heart of a city. This way you can always scale up as you see your results. You can simply search for the best billboard companies to work with and you will find a lot of places to go.
