Research Your Industry

One major way to get ahead of the competition in any industry is to know what the job really entails and have a really solid idea of what your day-to-day responsibilities will be before you even walk in the door. Just think about how valuable that can be to an employer versus somebody who has no idea what he will be doing when he comes in! Being able to portray that knowledge of the job on your resume will almost always get you an interview in fact. That is why it is important to talk about experience in the exact tasks you will be doing in the job you applied for.

Message somebody on Facebook or Instagram in the industry you wish to get into. You will be very surprised how many people will be willing to help in some way. You can say something like, Hey I see you do ___ I am currently trying to get into the industry and I was just wondering what would be valuable to know about the day to day work on the job. Anyway, thank you in advance and hope you have a great day.

Also, look up videos on YouTube about your field. Many times, you can search for a day in the life of ___ or, how to be a ____, What do _____ do all day. Many times you can figure out exactly what you will need to do every day just from finding a good video online.
