Retaining Information
If you are like me you may find yourself reading an entire page of a book and then trying to remember what exactly it was that you just read. This section will go over some tips on retaining the information you read and reading more efficiently.
The first and most important tip to helping you retain information you read is turning off and putting away any distractions that may get in your way while reading. When we are not retaining information we read, it simply means our minds are focused elsewhere while we scanning the words of our book. It can be very easy for our minds to wander especially when our phone is dinging or the tv is playing in the background. Make sure to rid your room of distractions and silence your phone before beginning your reading.
The other thing that always helps me retain reading information when I am feeling distracted is asking myself briefly in my head what is the summary of each chapter that I read. I will simply read a chapter and then ask myself what importance that paragraph has to the overall story or information in the book. If it helps, you can also take notes while you are reading. You may be better at retaining info through writing and so you can use this to your advantage as well while you read.
