Scale Your Business
The thing I like most about growing businesses is that once you find out what works it is all about duplicating that success on a larger scale and making small adjustments to keep up with the changes in the world. If you really are ready for this step, you should be very proud of yourself for making it this far. You should have the understanding that if you are currently able to be profitable at a business on any scale then there is the potential there to grow it to a greater level.
Things to keep in mind when scaling your business.
- Start off very Frugal with your expenses. It is always better to lose a little bit when trying something new than to jump all in without experience. For instance, if you are using ads online, instead of putting all your budget on one campaign that you like, try 3 of them with a very small budget then go all in on the one that gives you the best return on your investment. This can be a long process if done well but once you get the formula right you can start increasing your marketing budget and in turn your sales and profits.
- Do not grow too quickly. Many businesses may make the mistake of expanding too quickly and end up going bankrupt even though they were once a prospering business. This even happens to a lot of fortune 500 companies, so believe me no one is an exception to this rule. You always want to be careful when you are expanding as well. The best way I like to explain it is to ask yourself before expanding, If times got tough over the next few months would I be able to pay all of the new expenses that I am taking on. We saw so many businesses shut down during the pandemic and of course this is something that very few could predict. However, the ones that were ready for the rainy days when they saw little profit were able to make it out on the other end of it all. Be prepared for anything and keep some cash reserves when you start profiting so that you can make it through if times get tough.
- Always be ready to pivot as a business. One thing that is very important while creating a business is to keep an open mind to your customers. Sometimes the changes that we need to make are not always what we want but what our customers want. If there are changes in technology or even culture that may affect your business, you need to embrace it or else you will most certainly be left behind. Think about Blockbuster, which we all once knew as a major business in America. They had provided a place for physical movies to be rented out. When the digital age came about and things began to be streamed online as opposed to with a DVD player they failed to adjust. Back in the early stages of Netflix, Blockbuster had the opportunity to buy them out for a fraction of what they are worth today and yet they rejected the offer. They were stuck in their ways because the ones in charge decided to think about what they wanted rather than what the people wanted. For that reason, Blockbuster went from being worth a fortune to going bankrupt and shutting down all of their stores. If they had adjusted and bought out Netflix, they would be worth billions of dollars today.
