Staying in the Moment
Remember that when we are suffering the most from our ADHD, we are never living in the present moment but rather living within our chaotic minds. We may begin a task or conversation and start thinking about a joke we heard or something we have been worrying about. It is important to practice staying in the moment where our minds are silent, and we are focused only on the task or situation at hand.
One of the best ways to practice living in the moment is with meditation. You can check out some of our helpful tips in our meditation section. We go over a lot of ways to practice meditating and problems that it can help solve. One of the best meditation practices for helping with ADHD is simple breathing focused meditation. Find a comfortable position for yourself where you won’t feel any distracting discomfort and close your eyes. Take deep breaths in through your nostrils and out through your mouth and simply focus on that breathing and nothing else for as long as you can. Soak in your senses, the warmth or cold you feel, the smells you smell, the sounds you hear and just take those deep breaths over and over. This is a great way to practice living in the moment and will help you focus later on with your daily tasks. Try to set timers for this each day and increase your time increments each day. If ADHD is something that you struggle with, I highly suggest adding a reminder to your to dos or calendar on your phone with a reminder for a time that works for you.
