Understanding Addictions
Typically, addiction is a habit that we acquire to run from something or some feeling that we have been dealing with in our lives. It is important to understand what the underlying reasons for our addictions are. For myself I had found that my addictions were mostly caused by a FEAR of failure and abandonment that I had never dealt with. Spend some time evaluating your inner demons and figure out what it is that you are afraid or regretful of in life. Sometimes we use negative habits to fill voids in ourselves that we don’t wish to deal with. Once you figure out what those voids are it can be a big sense of relief just knowing what the underlying problems are.
After figuring out what FEARs are to blame for your addictions it will be time to face these fears head on. Create habits that will help you heal from these past scars and grow in a better direction. In my case I was afraid of failure and became increasingly so as I failed to plan out my dreams and goals for life. Because of this I decided to write down everything that I wanted to accomplish in detail for my life and just taking that step alone was incredibly rewarding for me. It may only take you a day to discover what it is that you truly want in life and a plan to obtain it that will make you happy. Whatever your FEAR is figure it out and start adding habits to your to dos or calendar on your phone that will help you make those steps in the right direction.
