Understanding Perspectives

It is important to understand what it means to look at things from different perspectives when dealing with people and solving general problems in life. Life in general is perspective, meaning that your outlook on in fact is your life in reality. Whatever you believe life to be and the principles you choose will ultimately prove to be true in your physical world. The same goes for other people as well and we must understand that just because we look at something one way does not mean it is the only right way to look at it. It is important to think about the fact that our perspectives on life are formed by the experiences we take in through our senses, the way we were raised and the way we react to these events and lessons in our lives. Somebody that thinks differently than you is not just wrong, they simply have had different life experiences and therefore believe in a different reality than you. Understanding and remembering this principle will make coming to agreements much easier with people and can help you have more compassion for other people. Also, if you are trying to solve a problem with a business for instance, you can put yourself in the consumers’ shoes. What would make me buy this product if I was a potential buyer? What kind of decorations would make me feel comfortable if I was a customer in my store? What price would I be willing to pay if I was in need of my own services? You can also use the idea of perspective to help resolve arguments and disagreements. Why does this person feel the way they feel? What would make them feel comfortable compromising or changing their mind? How can I show that I understand their perspective and feel for their situation? When we choose to look through other perspectives it can open our minds up to think differently. We can solve problems much easier when we get outside of ourselves and put ourselves in the shoes of others.
