YouTube and Google Marketing
We have linked these two together because YouTube is owned by Google and allows you to share ads across both platforms simultaneously. In this section we will go over tips for making these ads as well as tips for marketing with YouTube in general.
YouTube can be an amazing way to market your business. What people fail to realize though is that the key to marketing with YouTube is not with full videos but rather with shorts that you can post in volume. If you have a couple different google accounts to post 3 videos to each day for example, then you can have a lot of eyes on your brand very quickly. If you keep posting, you will eventually have a video gain traction and that can give you invaluable exposure for free! The keys to these types of videos is very similar to the keys to Tik-Toks and reels as well. You have to make sure that the beginnings of your videos grab attention! You can say something that evokes emotion from people, brings up a feeling that they want to fix in themselves or is a bit controversial to make the viewer curious. The first 2 seconds of your video will determine whether your viewer will continue watching. The audio, video and topic must be the best part of your clip. You should also try to keep your videos between 5 and 30 seconds but it really depends on how much substance is in your videos. You must make sure that there is very little filler and that anything that does not evoke emotion or provide valuable information to your viewer is cut out. You can also check out the Making Quality Videos section for tools and tips that you can use to make high quality ads. Remember, the most important thing when posting ads is to be consistent and cast as big of a net for customers as you possibly can. You can make 10 videos a day even if you push yourself, and that puts you over 3 times ahead of the person posting 3 times a day! If you combine this with other short form content platforms like Tik-Tok, Instagram, and Facebook, then you will be sure to get a lot of traffic.
You can also use the channel growth and your subscribers for full length videos to build a community centered around your brand. You can check out our section for Becoming a Youtuber for more tips on full length videos, but we will also go over how you can specifically use these tips to grow a customer base. You can make informative, fun videos for YouTube that you can show your brand to the world and gain a fanbase that will speak about your company and give you business. For example, you may have seen videos of a lawyer watching a video and explaining how he could help the person in the video or what they should have done differently. I have seen a lawyer that has 100s of thousands of followers and has made a fortune just by growing a YouTube channel. I have seen landscapers and power washers post videos of themselves doing free property transformations for free for someone in need. Ideas like this can be HUGE for your company so definitely take advantage of if you can.
The last part of YouTube advertising that we will talk about is interacting with users. Aside from simply making content for people to watch, you should be interacting with your viewers and other people on YouTube. You should first and foremost try to respond to every comment that you can in a polite and fun way. Also, you should do special things for your viewers like hold giveaways for anyone that reposts a video or picture that you post. You could use this to promote a sale or an event you are holding. You should comment on videos related to your industry daily as well when you have free time and try to add value or humor to the other viewers to get more free eyes on your company. If you combine these three parts to YouTube marketing, you can blow up your brand for free quickly!
Now we will go over YouTube and Google paid ads. There are a few different types of ads on these platforms that we will go over from best (in my opinion) to most outdated (in my opinion). I would always recommend getting traction with the free marketing on YouTube first so that you can get a good idea of how to make quality content that gets responses. But ads can be a great way to grow even quicker with scaling and can be easily analyzed for growth.
Before we actually go over the different types of ads on these platforms, we will go over the basics of ad management. The main thing you will want to keep in mind with all ads is to start small with a few different ads you can test. You can start with 3 different ads with a small budget like $10 per day each and see what kind of results you get. After a couple days you can see if any of the ads were profitable by comparing the cost with the sales it made. If you cannot track that with your site or business ask where they found you for a small discount if you have to or give them a code in the ad to use. Once you know which one is most profitable you can begin raising your budget or try another ad. This is why you want to start small because you can always add more but you cannot get your money back if they don’t perform.
The first type of ad we will go over and the best in my opinion in today’s age is YouTube shorts ads. YouTube shorts are free to post on so as we talked about before I prefer posting on a large scale rather than doing ads. However, this can be a great ad platform because you can get creative and grab the attention of your viewer much easier. You can also add a button to link to your site and place an order or set up a quote, etc. When making these ads, you should focus on creating a quality video that people will want to watch rather than an ad to show off your product usually. Get creative and evoke emotion like we talked about before. The same tips we went over for Shorts can be applied to the ads. Make sure to grab attention quickly, evoke emotion from a problem and then show how your company can solve it for them.
The Next type of ads on YouTube are regular video ads. I recommend marketing with shorts ads but if you are going to make a video ad the key is to make it very short. If you have noticed big brands have finally figured this out because everybody has been skipping ads immediately these days. If you can fit an ad in 10 seconds or less, you can avoid skipping and get your full message on your brand to the viewer. You can get away with longer videos, but you must keep in mind the level of interest the viewer will have at each moment in the video. If there is a lack of substance for a short period of time, then they will skip to the video they wanted to watch. If you are making a longer video ad, make sure that you are evoking a lot of emotion from your viewers. It must be something they have been avoiding or that they truly need to keep them watching for long. Either way, make sure that you get creative and check out our making quality videos section to learn more about ad videos in general.
The Last type of ad we will go over is Google search ads. These can be valuable for service businesses especially because you can buy the top of a search result spot for a specific area much cheaper than for a general term on the internet. For example, clothes will be almost infinitely more expensive to buy an ad spot for than, boutique in Atlanta. Either way you can purchase the top spot of a search on Google to get more people clicking on your site. I recommend finding long tail keywords which are longer search terms that you can get ad space for much cheaper. You can use askthepeople.com to find good long tail versions of keywords you want to rank for. This will give you lower competition searches that will allow you to get a high ad spot for much cheaper. I do not use this much myself because most people nowadays scroll past the ad results to get to the organic results. If you want to learn how to rank for searches organically you can check out our SEO section as well.
